Saturday Dreamin’

Yesterday evening, I went out for a quick 6.5 km run, and was done in 35 minutes. It was fabulous! I felt strong and I ran it fast (well, fast for me)! It’s runs like those that remind me why I enjoy stompin’ the pavement so much.

I’ve spent the morning looking at wedding blogs. Wait a second, who am I? Just six months ago, I wouldn’t have been caught dead looking at anything wedding related.

Then, 3 months ago, I turned the big 2-4. And bam! Like a ton of bricks, it hit me. I do want to get married at some point… Shocking!

Now, I’m currently rockin’ a single status, and my “big day” is nowhere in the near future. (And I’m definitely not looking to speed that up, or have a “shotgun situation” if you know what I mean!) But there’s no harm in looking at wedding stuff! After all, my summer is jam-packed full of weddings, and one of my favourite “I can’t help but do it” things is to pick out what I really like about a wedding. The last wedding I went to, just over a week ago, the cake was hands down the winner-winner-chicken-dinner! My little cousin’s wedding is just 2-weeks away, and I’m so excited to see what her and her hubby-t0-be have put together!

One thing I really love is white bridesmaid dresses.

I know, I know… It’s seen as “bad luck” for anyone other than the bride to be decked out in white. But puh-lease, if your marriage doesn’t work-out, I don’t think it’s because someone other than the bride wore white to the wedding!

In fact, in some countries (like the UK — think the recent royal wedding), it’s traditional for the bridesmaids to be in white. It’s believed that by the bridesmaids wearing white, they help to ward off evil spiritsLike a white army!

I also like the idea of a touch of white in the bridesmaids dresses — keep the bride the center of attention, as she should be!

Another thing I adore…

Fascinators! Those “wacky hats”… Love them! I’m obviously living on the wrong side of the world…

What do you think about bridesmaids or attendees wearing white? A-OK or big NO-NO?!

One Good Thing About Rain

Well, the one good thing about all the rain in B.C…

… is all the luscious green!

And that’s it. ‘Cause I literally got eaten alive by mosquitoes doing this shoot last Friday.

And I nearly died in hot yoga tonight. (OK, maybe died is a little dramatic… It felt awful though!) The room wasn’t even that hot, but it was so humid that the sweat was literally pouring from me. I was like a slip-and-slide in triangle pose — and normally I have no problems keeping both feet firmly planted on the ground.

As much as I love hot yoga and make a huge effort to go (mostly to get my money’s worth out of an unlimited membership), I hated every minute of it tonight. I know everyone has days where they don’t feel so great in the workout department… Today was mine. Too sweaty! On a positive note, I probably got a wicked facial from sweating my arse off like that! *Sigh…* There’s always a positive to working-out. 🙂

Now, here’s a positive… If you like movies (WHO DOESN’T), check out this wicked giveaway on Lauren’s blog. Dooooo it!!

Are there any workouts you have a love-hate relationship with?

I normally love-hate running, and looooooove yoga, but tonight was obviously an exception.

Happy Monday

Happy Monday! I forgot I’d left this note for myself on Friday, so it welcomed me at my desk this morning.

Let’s rewind to last week… Last week’s training didn’t go at all according to plan. I really let life get in the way of workouts I had planned to do. I don’t mean to be harsh on myself, but the week feels like an entire write-off in the training department… Especially when I have a 1/2 marathon I’m aiming to do in October. That’s less than 3-months away, people!! However; I woke-up this morning feeling ready to start fresh and tackle a structured training plan for myself this week. I tried to make it “fun” for myself – i.e. instead of a run on Sunday, I scheduled in a hike I’ve wanted to do. I’ve also incorporated strength training which I’ll admit, I don’t normally do. Eek!!

Here’s a snapshot of what I put together for myself for the week:

25 – 31 July 2011

PM – Short run

AM – Strength training
PM – Hot yoga

AM – 6K run
PM – Hot yoga

AM – Strength
PM – Hot yoga

PM – Long run (13K)

AM – Hot yoga
PM – Hike 🙂

More than likely, something will get in the way at some point, but it feels nice to have jotted down a plan to go by during the chaos of the work week. I’ve never made any sort of training plan for myself, but I find myself too overwhelmed trying to get in my workouts while balancing everything else in my life. As much as I love spontaneity, sometimes you need some structure in there too.

I got home from work extremely late tonight thanks to a last-minute emergency, so as soon as I got through the door, I slipped into my running gear and out the door for a run.

Sorry, I cannot get a post-run picture that doesn’t look psychotic… It’s the endorphins, haha!

Now I’m just chilling on the couch with a cuppa tea and a corny Netflix movie. 🙂

Do you have a structured training plan that you go by, or do you just “fly by the seat of your pants” when it comes to workouts?

Have any suggestions for me with regards to training plans? … Since I’m a newbie at it. 🙂

Cherry Sweet Tequila

If you weren’t aware, yesterday was the official first day of summer in B.C.

I live right by the road leading to one of the top summer destinations in the area. This means, the first day I have to start taking backroads to get home… Holy traffic jams!!

Since it’s the weekend, and since I can’t handle driving in traffic, it’s time to break out the icey cold summer drinks to cool down.

Cherry Sweet Tequila
Serves one, two, three, floor…

  • 1 shot of tequila (I used SkinnyGirl margarita, ’cause it was in my fridge.)
  • “Splashes” of pure orange juice, or roughly 1/2 a cup
  • 4-6 frozen cherries
  • Ice

Blend. Adjust ingredients to desired consistency. Then serve. Or drink it yourself, and giggle because it only takes one drink to get you tipsy. You’re such a lightweight…

Here’s the thing with girly drinks… I like ’em. But I don’t like drinking something that tastes like pure sugar. This was perfect ’cause it simply tasted like tequila and fruit.

Tequila and fruit… Sounds like summer to me!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaa, I drank it out of a wine glass. Does it make me classier?!

Today’s another warm one, and I’m thinking iced coffee + sun roof open + running errands is on the agenda.

This is the view from my patio this morning. So exciting to see sunshine! Hope you’re all enjoying the sun! (Or staying cool.)

This Week, In Retrospect

Well, blogging obviously never happened this week…

Not because I had no desire to. I wanted to, but I’ve been absolutely swamped with work!

First off, I was told at the end of last week that my job role would be changing, and I’d be working out of not just one, but two offices now.

There was (and still is) major cleaning to be done at the new office.

I’m definitely the type of person who throws eveeeeeeeeeeeeerything away when I clean. I don’t have any qualms about holding onto things “just in case.” I prefer things around me to be highly organized… “Less is more!”

Errr, I think I had Booster Juice smoothies twice this week.

And fortunately had my roommate to cook me dinner… Yay!

Awesome mango curry!

On Thursday, I attended one of my college roommate’s wedding. It was a great little ceremony at one of the universities in the city, and it was nice to catch-up with a few people I went to school with that I never get to see anymore.

Unfortunately, with the frenzy of going straight from work to the wedding, I forgot to charge my camera, so it pooped out before the reception even began… Bummer!

One of my favourite parts of the wedding was the cake. The bride is gluten-free as well, so they had the cake made by Sweet Tooth Cakery, based out of Vancouver. It was out-of-this-world! Maybe it’s because I haven’t had cake since having to cut gluten out of my life, but I literally inhaled the piece.

… And obviously didn’t get a picture of it. 😉

Yesterday after work, I headed out to take some pictures with one of my good friends who’s working on her portfolio for her website. I got to watch her upload the 200+ shots, and they were amazing!! I’m so excited to share, but I’ve got to be patient and wait for the edits to be done.

I got to chill with this little guy while we went through all the pictures yesterday evening.

I also realized (while photoshooting) that playing “model” attracts a lot of attention from people. Most of the pictures were taken in secluded areas, but we pulled off at the side of the road for a set and also did a few in my neighbourhood, and got a lot of yelling and honking. Umm, ‘cuse me, we’re trying to work here!

Because I’m new to this whole blogging thing, do you find when you’re taking pictures for blogging purposes that it attracts attention from people?

Anyways, the sun is FINALLY shining, so I’m off to enjoy it. 🙂

Fro-Yo & Lulu

Today I headed into the “big” city to make a trip to my favourite store in the universe… Lululemon.

I was on the hunt for a good pair of running shorts, a la Pippa Middleton.

Source: Google Images

I had read that the Groovy Run Short had sold-out, so my hopes weren’t up; but low-and-behold I should find a pair in my size! I snatched them up right then and there!

I also grabbed a DANCE! Headband. I have one in black as well that I adore.

Before heading back home, I grabbed some Fro-Yo, which I’ve never had before… Shocking! I tried a little bit of chocolate and a little bit of strawberry banana (LOVE), and topped it with some yogurt chips, mango and blueberries.

I’m a fan!

I especially loved the strawberry banana flavour, so I had to recreate a healthified version at home tonight.

3 Ingredient Strawberry Banana Fake-Yo
Vegan, gluten- and dairy-free! Serves ONE.

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 frozen strawberry
  • A “splash” of vanilla almond milk

Directions: Combine all three ingredients in a blender. Blend until creamy. Serve right away.

Make it. It’s just as good as the frozen yogurt that comes out of a slot machine thing-y. 🙂

A Day of Firsts

Today I had my first Maple Macchiato.

Oh yea. Best macchiato of my life.

Yes, better than Caramel. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay better.

I went for a run in the rain. Wait, that isn’t a first. I live in B.C., when does it not rain?

For the first time, I actually HAD to clean my apartment. It was messy.

Then I made Mmmm Sauce for the first time.

It smelled like a lotta curry.

It tasted like… Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I feel like this might just be the start of Mmmm Sauce on everything. Like Frank’s Red.

Or like rain in B.C. It’ll always be happening. Everyday.

Mmmm Sauce ❤
